The Run for Corky’s Freedom
This December Corky, the oldest captive orca in the world, will mark a heartbreaking milestone - 55 years in confinement. To draw attention to her tragic life at SeaWorld, we’re running a relay from Los Angeles to San Diego to demand that the abusement park release her into a seaside sanctuary where she could, for the first time in more than 50 years, feel the ocean currents, hear the songs and calls of other wild orcas, and possibly reconnect with her siblings.
Why the run? Orcas can naturally swim the distance from LA to San Diego—roughly 150 miles—in one day but are denied this every day they’re in captivity and forced to swim in endless circles in concrete tanks.
Will you support The Run for Corky’s Freedom?
The kickoff will be at the Bob Barker Building in Los Angeles on December 6th at 10am ending with a protest at the Mission Beach Boardwalk on Saturday the 7th at 1:30pm.
If you are in the area, we’d love for you to run with us – a mile or 10, all of it helps! If running isn’t for you, will you come cheer on our runners at the kick-off or join the protest finale?
We need your help to make The Run For Corky’s Freedom a success by chipping in any amount. Your contribution will help us amplify Corky’s story and make waves for all animals!
