I’m running 31 miles for animals — and I’d be so grateful for your support.
On November 8, I’ll be taking on the Thunder River 50K, a 31-mile ultramarathon through the trails of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area in Oregon. With over 5,000 feet of elevation gain, steep climbs, and technical terrain, I’m taking on this challenge to raise funds for PETA’s Global Compassion Fund — a lifeline for animals in crisis around the world.
This fund powers PETA’s most urgent and impactful work, including:
- Rescuing animals from war zones: In Ukraine, PETA-supported teams have saved over 26,000 animals since the war began. These teams deliver 3.7 million pounds of food and care for 2,500 animals each month, often risking their lives to reach animals trapped in bombed-out buildings and front-line towns. Learn more about their heroic work here
- Providing free spay/neuter clinics in underserved areas: In Mexico, PETA Latino has sterilized hundreds of dogs and cats in cities like Cancún and Chichimilá. One recent clinic helped 265 animals in a single weekend, preventing thousands of unwanted births and offering vaccinations, flea/tick treatments, and compassionate education for guardians. - Delivering emergency veterinary care and disaster relief: From hurricanes in the Philippines to earthquakes in Syria and Turkey, PETA-supported teams respond quickly to help animals in crisis.
- Creating lasting change through global outreach and education: This fund also supports humane education programs, community outreach, and advocacy efforts in more than 25 countries, helping people see animals as individuals deserving of compassion and respect.
I hope you’ll join me in supporting this vital work. Wish me luck out there — for the animals!
With gratitude,
Emily Thoms
