Hi! I’m Jakob!

This April, I’ll be spreading my wings and flying to the UK for my first-ever London Marathon!

I will be running to support PETA’s campaign to end the breeding and sale of captive birds. For most birds, flying is the most intrinsic part of their physical and psychological well-being, yet millions of birds are still kept in captivity, where they are forced to spend every day locked in a cramped cage, unable to fly.

I hope to soar through the course, to shine a spotlight on the suffering of these captive birds, who want nothing more than to fly, but are denied the opportunity and ability to do so.

PETA is campaigning to protect birds by working with elected officials around the country to introduce and pass legislation banning the sale of birds from pet stores. In September 2025, after working with PETA and hearing testimony from our members and supporters in the city, the City Council of West Hollywood, CA, passed the most comprehensive ban on the retail sale of animals in the US, which will protect birds and countless other animals from the cruelty of the pet trade and from languishing in captivity.

Whether it’s through our legislative advocacy, public education, or youth outreach initiatives, PETA will keep going until we’ve crossed the finish line and permanently abolished the practice of breeding, selling, and keeping birds in captivity.
