I’m very excited to launch the THIRD YEAR of my BAREFOOT MARATHON!

Thank you all for supporting my barefoot marathon fundraiser!

At 8AM Monday morning, April 20th, I completed 8 barefoot laps around Lake Quannapowitt, just outside of Boston, in my first ever solo marathon. I had a lot of alone time while I was out there and it gave me plenty of time to think about all the animals that will be helped with the funds we raised together.  I wasn't quite sure what would happen this year with the many challenges and distractions going on. The fact that I was able to surpass my $20,000 fundraising goal is amazing to me, and so many animals will benefit from this.  Thank you all!

Hi, I'm Scott! I will be running the 2020 Boston Marathon barefoot to raise funds for PETA and their amazing doghouse program. This year I'm taking on my biggest challenge yet—to raise $20,000 by the end of the day on race day, April 20, 2020!

PETA’s Community Animal Project supplies custom doghouses to animals whose guardians have left them to survive outside in wretched conditions—in the bitter cold and sweltering heat, treated as property, lacking respect and dignity. Veterinary care and follow-up visits are provided by PETA fieldworkers, whose compassionate efforts are always on my mind as I push through another cold New England winter of barefoot marathon training.  Please take a moment to watch this video.

Because of your amazing support year after year, this fundraiser, to me, has evolved from “a cool thing to attempt” a few years back, to an important personal mission that I take on passionately for these animals.  The challenge of barefoot winter training, along with whatever illnesses, injuries or fatigue that inevitably arise each year makes this quite the undertaking.

But, marathons aren't supposed to be easy, right?

It’s certainly not easy for “outdoor” dogs at the end of a chain on these cold winter days, and it is to them who I dedicate this run.  I really look forward to all of your continued support this year to help me hit my biggest goal yet of $20,000.  There’s a lot of work to be done before I toe the start line on April 20th!

Please consider sharing my fundraiser with your friends and family! You can find me at peta.org/barefootrunner. Thank you so much for your compassion for animals and your support.
